Exeter charity inspires Peruvian children to trek for their dignity!
Exeter based charity, Amantani.org.uk have created a unique fundraising idea. The 64 children in their boarding houses in Peru will raise money for their education and in doing so raise their self-esteem.
Moved by their recent trip to Peru, Co-Directors of Amantani.org.uk, Fred Branson & Chris Palfreyman explain; “When we sat down with the children in Peru and explained how our UK fundraising challenges work, they were inspired and said; ‘well we can do that as well, we love a good hike and we want to raise money for ourselves’. And so was born the idea for RISE TO IT – an expression of the self-sufficiency of the children in the boarding houses”.
On Thursday 23rd June, 2011, the Andean Children of Ccorca, Peru will take part in their very own fundraising challenge; RISE TO IT: help us help ourselves. They will trek up the tallest mountain in their village; the mystical APU MAMA SIMONA whose peak exceeds 5,200m. They would like people here in the UK to sponsor their efforts, so that they can fill their school bags.
This ground breaking fundraising concept challenges our traditional thoughts on how projects in developing countries raise funds. It is an exercise in self-sufficiency, teamwork and determination but the true reward will be their dignity.
If you admire this attitude and want to encourage it, you can sponsor them on their Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/rise-to-it
